Has anyone here read Thomas Ligotti? He writes the sort of "weird" fiction that Lovecraft wrote, which aims to unsettle rather than shock or disgust. He's only written short stories and one novella, all of which are somewhat difficult to find (though not as difficult as, say, R.A. Lafferty's work).
His greatest strength, in my opinion, is a precise style of phrasing which manages to be evocative without drawing attention to itself (in the way that Lovecraft's use of certain favored adjectives can be).
For those interested, his short story "Nethescurial" (my current favorite, as it happens) is available free to read on his website, at the following link: http://www.ligotti.net/showthread.php?t=433
