The first ever trade edition of Tolkiens illustrated tale about the eccentric Mr Bliss, a man notable for his immensely tall hats and for the girabbit in his garden, whose whimsical decision to buy a motor car quickly becomes a catalogue of disasters. Professor J.R.R. Tolkien invented and illustrated the book of Mr Blisss adventures for his own children when they were very young. The book was handwritten with lots of detailed and uproarious colour pictures. This is a complete and highly imaginative tale of eccentricity. Mr Bliss, a man notable for his immensely tall hats and for the girabbit in his garden, takes the whimsical decision to buy a motor car. But his first drive to visit friends quickly becomes a catalogue of disasters. Some of these could be blamed on Mr Blisss style of driving, but even he could not anticipate being hijacked by three bears. As for what happened next the readers, whether young or old, will want to discover for themselves. Redesigned using new archival scans of Tolkiens original drawings, MR BLISS is presented for the first time in a conventional trade format, sure to delight Tolkien fans of all ages. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

London. HarperCollins Publishers Ltd. 2011. Hard Cover. Crown octavo 8vo. 7½" by 5" (190 mm x 126 mm) approx. Dark blue cloth boards with gilt titles blocked to the spine. Unclipped pictorial dust wrapper. Book and jacket are as new with no wear. Tolkiens illustrated tale about the eccentric Mr Bliss, a man notable for his immensely tall hats and for the girabbit in his garden, whose whimsical decision to buy a motor car quickly becomes a catalogue of disasters. Tolkien invented and illustrated the book of Mr Blisss adventures for his own children when they were very young. The book was handwritten with lots of detailed and uproarious colour pictures. Redesigned using new archival scans of Tolkiens original drawings. Also includes the original handwritten version to the rear. It was originally submitted by the author in 1936 to the publisher as a possible successor to The Hobbit but they could not afford to print the illustrations and the book remained undiscovered until long after Tolkien's death in 1973. The dust jacket will be protected with a new protective mylar sleeve which is removable. Please contact us if you would like any more information or additional images. Postage price quoted outside the UK is for a book up to 1kg using UPS. For books sent within the UK, there will be no extra charge for books up to 2kg which are sent by Royal Mail. Postage quoted in the UK is the actual cost (£3.45). All books are sent in protective packing and custom book box. If your book is intended as a gift, please let us know and we will gift wrap it free of charge with a card and any message.
