Not a first [bound-in rather than tipped-in color plates] but an early printing [color plates only appeared until 1935]. Green cloth boards with pictorial paste-down front board. Rubbing to boards, tanning to spine, general age wear. Foxing to endpapers, title, occasionally throughout. Splitting at inner hinges but binding is intact. Most pages clean, plates vibrant.

The 7th book in the Oz series written by Ruth Plumly Thompson carrying on the tradition of the original 14 stories by L. Frank Baum. This is a true FIRST EDITION, first printing from 1927, with the lovely illustrations by artist John R. Neill, including pen-and-ink endpapers & internal illustrations (many full page), full-color frontispiece & all 10 full-color internal plates are present (though one has come completely loose). With green publisher's cloth over boards, black lettering & design to spine, publisher's name in the original plain, not fancy script, & a full-color front paper pastedown, in 282 pages. Condition is Fair, marred by these flaws: 1) heavy rubbing to extremities, with cloth covering the spine reglued along seams, with some splitting & fraying of cloth to all these seams & at both ends of spine & all corners, as well. 2) front paper pastedown is missing a rectangular piece from the upper outer corner, along with a triangular chip through Baum & Neill's names at the lower fore edge side corner. 3) Someone went mad with scissors in the first 32 pages, cutting out squares from the bottom outer corner on some pages & slicing others. Rest of pages are fine. Else, book is generally very clean, binding straight & strong, though rear hinge is cracked. Pages creamy white, with moderate tanning, heavier around edges; no foxing. "This Book Belongs To." box in front matter is blank, but missing a portion of the page (scissor damage) at bottom outer corner. NO writing or underlining or highlighting or coloring; not ex-lib. NO DJ. Outwardly rather ugly.but those scarce color plates! Our photos depict the Exact book you will receive, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have! Same Day Shipping on all orders received by 2 pm Weekdays (PST); later orders, weekends & holidays ship very next business day.
