Dark Grey leatherette lettered in silver. Wrapped in pictorial dustjacket and housed in leatherette slipcase with one pictorial panel. Edition limited to 700 numbered copies signed by the author on limitation page. This copy is #659 and also signed by Clive Barker who wrote the Afterword. Also included is Time Intervening, a chapbook which was sent to subscribers who bought directly from publisher. A fine copy of the classic book of macabre tales.

Spine moderately cocked. Binding firm. Edges of pages yellowing. Front free end page missing. DJ has small pieces out (the largest being 1/4") at top of spine. 1/4" piece of scotch tape on inner edge of front flap, and a similarly-sized piece of scotch tape reinforcing the inner side of the DJ spine. 3/4" tear at bottom rear edge of DJ near spine, repaired with scotch tape on the inner side. Not all the stories from the US edition are included.

First edition, 1947, one of 3112 copies printing of Bradbury's first book. A signed note by Bradbury is taped onto the front endpaper dated April 17, 1948-- a very early signature. There are tape marks where the note is taped in. A very good copy with some light wear to spine and some light age toning in a good DJ that has a a couple of chips to the top edge and spine plus some general edgewear and tape repairs but the $3.00 price point is still present, now protected in archival mylar. 313pp. Black cloth boards, gilt titles on spine. Binding tight, spine straight, corners square. Pages evenly age toned but otherwise clean and unmarked. Dust jacket shows some wear at spine ends, and some rubbing to front panel. Small, closed tear at lower front corner of back panel. Dust jacket is intact, not price clipped. Jacket in mylar sleeve. Bradbury's first collection of stories, edited by August Derleth and issued in a run of only 3112 copies. Bradbury didn't authorize a reprint edition of the book for years, due to the fact many of the stories appeared in other books over the years. Finally, in 2001, he gave the go-ahead to an edition from Gauntlet Press, and provided an introductory essay.
