"First Edition" on its copyright page. This book was published posthumously, so there are no copies signed by its author. This copy, though, IS signed on its title page, with no peronsalization or inscription, by its jacket artist, John Picacio. This book and its dust jacket are both in fine condition. The book's binding is tight and square, with no spine crease. Its covers are unmarked and unworn, with bright gilt titles on its spine. Pages are unworn and otherwise unmarked. Not a remainder. Its dust jacket, now protected by a removable mylar cover, is whole, bright, unmarked, and unworn. I will ship this book in a moisture proof zip-loc bag, padded in bubble wrap, inside a sturdy box to assure it reaches its new owner in the same condition as my description.

First edition: One of 3000 copies. Fine in a fine dust jacket. Jacket painting John Picacio. ".these nine tales are set in Budayeen, the walled city in the sand, a city of dark shadows and even darker inhabitants, where a Raymond Chandleresque vision has been created hardboiled, noir, futuristic but with a twist. The sights, smells, and denizens of Budayeen are brought to life from the city's sordid, decadent underbelly to the glamorous excesses of the sex industry. This collection includes four tales of Marîd Audran, the protagonist in Effinger's three highly acclaimed Budayeen novels. Also included is Effinger's best-known story, 'Schrödinger's Kitten', in which a young girl's dreams portend myriad possible quantum futures, all focused on her encounter with a would-be rapist."
