A rare copy of the first edition of various supernatural stories by Hoffmann. Anonymous translation and even though the publishers do not revela the sources it is likely that this was translated from a French intermediatery source similar to Hoffmann's Fairy Tales. This is the first english appearance in book form for many of these stories and and only appearance for a couple. It is however not a great translation, several stories have been rewritten and do not represent Hoffman's work accurately. Bleibler 825. This is a rare first printing in a contemporary binding of half leather with marbled boards and gold edges. Internally in generally NF condition but with toning to pages in latter part of the book. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall
