300 g; 200 pages, in original red Gollancz hardcover binding, with red black and yellow Gollancz dustwrapper. Apart from some faint impressions on the rear panel of the jacket, the book shows no damage. A collection of 5 long stories, studies of imminent social change, written out of passionate concern about the directions in which our society may be heading -- stories, in fact in the great Orwellian tradition. Most importantly, they are about people: believable, defiant individuals struggling against oppressive forces. -- Front fold over blurb Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. A highly respectable 1st Edition copy of Keith Roberts's debut collection for Gollancz featuring an introduction by the author and five long stories. The text is clean - there is some age-toning/light foxing to text block edges, faintly erased pencil marks to front endpaper and previous owner's name/date present to front pastedown under jacket flap. The red cloth boards have only minor hints of wear and a touch of fading to edges. The unclipped dust jacket has some sunning to spine else just traces of surface use (notably to rear cover lower edge). A highly presentable copy - please see five pictures attached.
