Minor issues present such as mild cracking, inscriptions, inserts, light foxing, tanning and thumb marking. Overall a good condition item. Boards have mild shelf wear with light rubbing and corner bumping. Some light marking and sunning.

Illustrated end pages of a floral design in a green colour. Green coloured cloth covered boards with gilt coloured titles to the front panel and back strip. A continuation of the story of Metabel Adams, first met in the author's previous book "A Fiddler in Barly". Metabels' father dies suddenly, and, on a walk in the forest she meets a young woodcutter by the name of Joseph – amiable and non--ambitious, and, very soon she has moved into his house in the forest with his uncle. This is the story of young love that never runs smoothly. Softening and rubbing of the back strip edges with bumping of the book corners. Rubbing of the book panels along with some stains and flecking and darkening of the back strip. Tanning of the textblock edges and age toning of the pages. First UK edition, first impression (previously published in the USA, 1927). 182pp. In blue cloth boards with gilt lettering on spine. Top edge sprayed blue, all others edges deckled. 12mo. Cloth a little rounded at spine tips, text block edges dulled. Internally neat, clean, bright and tight. In its original dust jacket, not price clipped, toned and chapped along upper edge, 3 inch open tear with some loss on verso, some mild soiling visible on verso. Dust jacket now protected in a Brodart-style sleeve, fitted without the use of tape or adhesives. A sweet and delicate novel - if you have not read Robert Nathan, do so and if you have read one of his books, read another.

Spine a bit cloth, some markings and light soiling to cloth but in fact very good in d/w, jacket chipped at spine ends and edges.
