THIS IS A VERY NICE CLEAN COPY WITH A SMALL MARK TO THE BOTTOM RIGHT HAND .( SEE PHOTO) ALL PAGES ARE CRISP AND CLEAN WITH MILD SPOTTING TO THE FRONT FEW PAGES. AT SOME POINT IN ITS LIFE IT HAS BEEN REBOUND IN GREEN CLOTH BOARDS AND BLACK LEATHER SPINE. A VERY GOOD COPY INDEED.

Black boards, the front with 15% loss to its surface sheen (water damage?); The spine, lettered in gilt, speckled with miniscule gold spots. Internally endpapers foxed and the free ones partly tanned; half-title and title pages foxed; first blank and page 1 with a few spots; pages 34, 35 and 36 affected by a 2 cm x 2 cm stain; pages 54 to 63 affected by significant foxing; marginal stains to pages 79 to 89; a 5 cm x 5 mm cup ring on pages 262, 263 and 264; a heavy 5 mm x 5 mm spot on page 267 bleeds on to adjacent pages; foxing and a few finger stains at end i.e. pages 479 to 487. This catalogue of stains is not comprehensive: many pages have minor marks and many are unmarked. Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall

Octavo, pp. [1-8] [1] 2-487 [488: printer's imprint], original black cloth, spine panel stamped in gold. The fifth and final novel published during Lindsay's lifetime. Though boring, the work has its memorable pages, even chapters according to Colin Wilson who spent two years getting through it. E. H. Visiak stated that he initially believed that the book was almost unreadable, but upon rereading it - slowly - he found it fascinating and was so impressed that he wrote a fifty page critique of the novel. Brian Stableford says the novel is "marvelously atmospheric and admirably conscientious in its design of a hypothetical mythology and the metaphysics to go with it." E. F.
