If this is your first visit here, I much recommend that you take a few minutes to look over the introductory material accessible via the red “Introductory” zone of the Site Menu available from the “hamburger” icon in the upper right of this (and every) page. An understanding of the purposes and principles of organization of this site will, I hope and believe, much augment your experience here, for this page and in general. First (sole?) edition of an enchanting and engaging look into "Fairy Land" via a clever use of pop-ups, in very good condition. Illustrations by Eveline Stuart Hardy. Tells several fairy stories with six (6) full-page pop-up scenes, including: "The Procession of Nursery Rhymes"; "A Visit to the Snow Queen's Palace"; "The Fairies' Lake"; "Jack Running Away from the Giant"; "The Queen of the Bird Fairies"; and "The Babes Asleep in the Wood". All of the moveable components are present, save one small piece lacking in the first. Oblong folio (10.75" by 13.75"), pp. [28] including six (6) full-page pop-up illustrations. In original illustrated chromolithographed boards backed in red cloth. Contemporary ink inscription to front free endpaper: "Hedwig M. Gennerich. From Tante Hedwig." Ernest Nister (1841-1906) was a prominent publisher of children's books known for his use of use of paper engineering. In 'The Collector's Book of Children's Books" Eric Quayle described this as one of the finest of Nister's stand-up books. Very good. Minor toning and spotting, one or two short tears. One small moveable fragment missing from first pop-up opening, not significantly affecting movement or effect. Remnants of tape. Binding worn.
