Nathan wrote a variety of published works including novels, poetry, screenplays, nonfiction, children's literature, and radio and television programs. He is perhaps best-known for his two novels, The Bishop's Wife (1928) and Portrait of Jennie (1940). Jezebel's Husband is a satirical play about the Biblical figure, Jonah. Nathan's version of Jonah is married to a woman named Jezebel and is feeling disillusioned after his incident with the whale.
