The 33rd book in the Oz series & the final one written by Ruth Plumly Thompson, who brilliantly carried on the tradition of the original 14 stories by L. Frank Baum, with the lovely illustrations of artist John R Neill throughout the book's 272 pages. Orig. published in 1939 (to coincide with the release of the movie that same year), this is a modern reprint (after the early 1970s per ISBN) by Books of Wonder, in softcover format, but retaining the original text & artwork. An Ex-Lib copy (with the usual stamps & markings), condition is nonetheless VG: pages white & unmarked, binding strong & straight, exterior colors bright. Spine call number removed, but bar code remains on rear, trapped under library clear plastic topcoat applied to book, which is split in places (looks fine, feels uneven in places). Frank Baum's classic children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and its sequels. An avid reader of Baum's books and a lifelong children's writer, Thompson was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. While in high school she sold her first fairy tale to St. Nicholas Magazine to which she continued contributing, along with The Smart Set. wizard In 1914 she took a job with the Philadelphia Public Ledger, writing a weekly children's column for the newspaper. Thompson's contributions to the Oz series are lively and imaginative, featuring a wide range of colorful and unusual characters. This item is printed on demand.
