De grandes fentes sur ses côtés couverts de poils se dilataient, se tendaient avec obscénité, puis se refermaient avec moiteur. L'air chaud m'atteignit. Dieu !.j'étais certain que rien, nulle part, ne pouvait avoir pareille odeur ! Je regardai les extra-terrestres. Ils n'étaient pas venus pour voir le ver géant et repartir. Ils étaient venus pour se glisser à l'intérieur. Ils prenaient calmement les soies à pleine main et se hissaient à bord. Il suffisait d'attendre que la chose expire, et de se glisser dans une des fentes humides. Je courus. Je me glissais à l'intérieur un quart de seconde avant que la chose ne se referme derrière moi.
