New York, Doubleday, 1971. 8vo. Original red cloth, titled black to spine, with illustrated dust wrapper; pp. [viii], 183; a very good copy with some occasional foxing and a little wear to the dust wrapper. Inscribed by author to front free endpaper. First edition. A dystopian science-fiction novel about post-apocalypse britain, where roaming gangs rule supreme and mutant lizards lurk in the shadows. When a lizard is born to a human, a group of men set out to deliver the baby to its own kind. As Harrison's debut novel, this is rare find, but especialy in the dust wrapper. This copy is inscribed by the author thus: "For Phil â" Ah, those long centuries in Ankor Wat â" Mike H." The recipient is Philip Horowitz, brother of the author Anthony Horowitz, from whence Sotherans acquired this copy.
