Red cloth w/ gilt lettering, paper boards, frontis. Corners and spine are bumped and somewhat frayed. with a two-inch long tear from the head of the spine. A few minor dampstains and smudges on covers. Very light pencilled notes and foxing throughout, pages and endpapers are browned from missing jacket possibly. Still a very good looking volume.

The boards are a shelf rubbed, edge worn and marked. There is a pen inscription of the title on the front board. internally, The front end pages has pen scribbles and inscriptions on the front end page as well as an inscription on the title page. True first British printing with original unclipped (priced to spine) jacket. Coloured frontispiece by the author. Jacket has patchy edge/shelf wear, one small (approx. 1cm) tear to middle of spine, the odd small mark, patchy browning (including to spine), tiny loss to a couple of corners and a little pushing/rubbing to head/tail of spine and to corners. Boards are very good with the odd very small mark, little pushing/bumping to corners, patchy fading to/near spine, odd small bump/rub to edges and a little pushing/rubbing to head/tail of spine. Pages are generally clean and the binding is tight. End-papers tanned. Top of pages slightly dusty with mild foxing. Minor foxing to page edges and bottoms. Pages slightly tanned.
