The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

Light splaying of covers, light bumping to top corner of rear cover- a small number of pages have folded in on themselves at just the corner tip. Faint marking to top left corner of front cover, small smudge in center of spine, light bumping to its ends. Otherwise in swell shape, the binding is square and solid, the pages are clean and crisp.

First Edition. Hardback. No Dust Jacket. 8vo. pp 128. With 8 illustrations by James Boswell. Fiction- tales of the surealist boxer including 'The Night of the Big Witch Shoot', 'The Day We Played Mars', and 'Dirty Work at the Dog's Opera.' Bookplate on front pastedown. Front panel of d.j. laid on to rear pastedown. Small coloured illustration of Engelbrecht neatly laid on to copyright page, without obscuring text. Spine slightly dulled. VG.

First edition hardback with dustjacket. DJ has lose to top 1 inch of spine, also faded to spine. Chipped to corners. Foxed to reverese. Slight foxing to endpapers otehrwise internally clean. Slight fading to blue board edges. Good condition.

Title page has vignette illus.of Engelbrecht with boxing gloves. 128 pages, 260g, 7 1/2" Tall. From the Library of Prof. Charles Thomas, Cornish Historian & Author. His illustrated Bookplate & note are on the endpaper. No other inscriptions. Pages in very good, clean condition. Spine tanned and leaning a bit. Jacket id missing almost half of the spine and has some closed tears at fore edges. Onlaid carefully onto white paper now (see photos). Unclipped, original price 8/6. Size: 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" Tall

fine hardcover copy in a fine, James Boswell,dustwrapper 1st edition thus. Maurice Richardson's cult classic is one of the strangest works of fiction ever written. Fifteen stories that relate the activities of the Surrealist Sportsman's Club.

Signed by the author on the front free endpaper with a dedication to his friend Archie Lyall. Archie Lyall was an interesting character who had both a writing and acting career among other exploits and is currently best remembered as a travel writer. The boards have yellowing along the top edges of the front and rear panels and at the top and bottom of the spine. Light browning to the page edges. Endpapers have quite a bit of yellow spotting with the front free endpaper the most badly affected. A few small creases to the top corners of the pages which are otherwise clean and unmarked. The jacket has a quarter inch piece missing at the top of the spine where there is a half inch closed tear next to the front panel. Light chipping to the corners, a small surface tear to the left edge of the rear panel and a half inch closed tear to the top edge of the rear panel. Heavy yellow spotting to the front flap where the dedication date has left a little ink mark. Illustrated by James Boswell. First printing
