The cover shows some edgewear with sunning to the spine. The binding is sound. There is an inscription on the presentation page.

Cover is worn and rubbed with some of the front cover art being chipped from the bottom edge. The corner edges of the cover are bumped. The top and bottom edges of the spine are creased and worn. Spine is shaken, but binding is secure. A few pages in chapter 1 are foxed and slightly smudged, not affecting legibility. Otherwise all other pages are clean and unmarked.

283pp. Gray boards with full-color pastedown on front board, black lettering on spine. Text and artwork is clean on unmarked, uncreased pages. Hinges are intact with some loosening and separation, textblock is square with pointed corners. Moderate++ overall shelf/timewear, boardwear, board edge and cornerwear, fraying, pageblush throughout.

Some edge wear to boards particularly at top and bottom of spine and at corners; cover illustration is worn in lower right corner; this is a reprint since the illustrations and end papers are in black and white; gift inscription on front end paper is dated Christmas 1944; however, generally a solid, clean copy.

Light wear to cover edges. Tightly bound. Illustration "Queen Hyacinth" on page 150 has been colorized with crayon or pastel (tastefully) ; the text is otherwise unmarked. DJ shows light surface rubbing effecting colors. Scattered light rubbing and chipping along jacket edges with a small amount of loss at the spine ends. ; Blue cloth with black and white illustrated end pages. Ca. 1959/60s. Minor bumping on corners. ; Large 8vo 9" - 10" tall; 283 pages
