Contains all the original black and white illustrations of John R. Neill, and maps of Oz and the surrounding countries courtesy of the International Wizard of Oz Club. 21st in series, preceded by The Hungry Tiger of Oz, and followed by The Giant Horse of Oz and many others. Peter Brown, an American boy, finds his way to the Island of Ruggedo, the wicked Gnome King. The two escape to Oz, which the Gnome King plans to conquer. Teal cloth, b/w illustrations, plain endsheets, $1.50 on the DJ flap, the last title on the rear flap is Handy Mandy in Oz (1939). Slight spine lean, very modest rubbing at the corners and spine ends, small p.o. name in ink on the ffep, 'This book belongs to' is blank. the corners of the dustjacket are rubbed through, a small chip at the bottom of the front gutter, larger chip at the top of the spine affect the title.

Yellow cloth. Corners have small bumps but is otherwise bright and clean, with a tight binding and clean pages. Dust jacket is very worn with a two inch chip at bottom of spine, half inch chips to corners, some modest overall toning, two by three inch chip at back flap, price-clipped. now proteced in an archival cover. Photos on request.
