The Ice Monkey and Other StoriesFirst edition. 144 pages. Inscribed in ink by the author to the title page: "For Tony Bretton '88 M. John Harrison". The book is firmly bound in textured red faux leather over boards, lettered in gilt to the spine, the extremities are a little bumped and rubbed. The text block is slightly marked and age toned, the endpapers are of a more expensive cream-coloured paper with sewn-in fabric reinforcement strips at the gutters, making the book much more robust than was typical at this period. The Eddie Gornall illustrated dust jacket is the original and not price clipped, it is lightly marked, with slight rubbing and creasing to the edges. Harrison's second published short story collection, tending towards creeping, grimy horror at the human level, set in decaying late-industrial period Britain and its areas of suburban sprawl.
