For schoolteacher Thomas Abbey there was no writer to equal Marshall France, a legendary author of children's books who hid himself away in the small town of Galen and died of a heart attack at the age of forty-four. Tom and his girlfriend Saxony, wanting to write France's biography, arrive in Galen, where they discover the writer's fiercely protective daughter Anna is waiting for them. Before long, they realise that this idyllic little town and its inhabitants - both human and animal - are not quite what they seem: France's magic has spread beyond the printed page . The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

1st printing Viking 1980. Good plus/VG minus. Moderate wear, scratches, small nicks and tears to jacket. Generally light external wear, some minor corner bumps. The pages are clean overall, with an occasional slight blemish; a number of pages towards the end are a bit creased at the bottom edge. Price marking in pencil to front endpaper. Solid binding.

First edition, hardcover, has a mild skew to the binding, sun fading to the head with faint toning to the page edges, and light bumps to the spine ends. Overall, this is a solid, tight, Very Good copy in an unclipped, Very Good+ dust jacket, which has light bumps with mild creasing to the spine ends and corners, sunning to the spine, and some slight rubbing to the covers. The jacket is wrapped in Mylar.
