Two copies at a great price: a collectible unread copy in near fine condition for your bookshelf, plus a very good copy for you to read or share. Both are the paperback original first edition, with Ballantine number 82210 and "An Ace Science Fiction Special" on the front cover, and no statement of edition or printing on the copyright page. The near fine copy is unread, and marred only by a tiny chip on the right edge of the front cover, plus a trace of wear at top of the spine. Its binding is tight and square, with no creases in the spine or hinges. Covers are bright (neither toned nor faded), unmarked, and otherwise unworn. Pages are unmarked and unworn, with unfaded publisher's yellow stain around edges of the text block, and just a bit of age toning to the paper. The very good copy has a sound binding and no crease in the spine, with a trace of lean, and a shallow crease in the front hinge. Its cover is unmarked, very slightly faded, with some light wear on edges and corners. Its pages are unmarked, with some light edge wear, faded yellow edge stain, and moderate age toning to the paper. As with all Space Age Book purchases, I will ship these books in a moisture proof zip-loc bag, padded in bubble wrap, inside a sturdy box to assure they reach their proud new owner in the same condition as my description.

© 1971: A collection of four short stories by John Brunner. 1st printing of 1978 edition. Ace Science Fiction Special Series 1 #82210:- Contents: Imprint Of Chaos / Break The Door Of Hell / The Wager Lost By Winning / Dread Empire:- Synopsis: When chaos ruled the cosmos. The time was the unguessably remote past - or perhaps the distant future. Throughout the universe, Chaos ruled. Scientific laws of cause and effect held no force; men could not know from one day to the next what to expect of their labours, and even hope seemed foolish. In this universe there was one man to whom had been entrusted the task of bringing reason and order out of Chaos. He was a quiet man dressed in black who carried a staff made of light, and wherever he went the powers of Chaos swirled around him, buffeted him, tested him. He fought them, and little by little he drove them back. But the Traveller in Black himself belonged to the anti-science universe. If he succeeded in his task of changing the order of the cosmos, could he continue to live?:- (original cost $0.75).
