First paperback edition. Very good-. Rubbing to the edges and creases on the front cover near the spine, with other signs of occasional wear. Unmarked interior.

Paperback. Bard Books 31948. Erotic fantasy. Very good condition. Minor edge-wear on front cover. Slight yellowing on spine. Small tear on upper left corner of spine. Faint rubbing-wear on upper-right corner of back cover.

This is an ex-lib copy. Bound in black cloth stamped in silver with some tape ghosts. The book shows a library label to front pastedown and a removal mark to front endpaper with some tape ghosts. The dust jacket is near perfect, except that it is price clipped. 286 pp. Priced accordingly.

1st US printing/edition. Probably exlib copy. Rear endpaper has what appears to be a removed pocket. No other library markings seen. The jacket has been clipped along bottom so its a bit less than half a centimeter short otherwise it is bright and clean

A very uncommon book. Published in the UK in hardcover as The Infernal Desire Machines of Doctor Hoffman.

Jacket shows significant wear along the top edge -- several tears, with a tear to the top rear cover along the spine about an inch and a half by a couple centimeter. The hardcover is about very good. Black cloth over boards with a very minor fray to one corner. Clean pages and tight binding, jacket will by in mylar sleeve.

Quite good condition. Some writing on back of and front endpaper but otherise clean condition. Neat collectable. I almost kept this one.

" This picaresque novel is heavily influenced by surrealism, Romanticism, critical theory, and other branches of Continental philosophy. Its style is an amalgam of magical realism and postmodern pastiche. The novel has been called a theoretical fiction, as it clearly engages in some of the theoretical issues of its time, notably feminism, mass media and the counterculture. The novel features Desiderio, an assistant to a government minister in a city which is currently under attack by Doctor Hoffman's reality-distorting machines, in an unspecified Latin American country. Desiderio embarks on a journey to find Hoffman's former physics teacher, eventually bringing him to Hoffman's castle.

Nice clean copy in a VG+ dustwrapper.

Small black spots in about 2" area along front page ends, but no evidence of spotting internally. Pages clean and unmarked. Very Good in a Near Fine jacket, unclipped ($6.95), a few very short tears at the top edge. Black cloth with multi-colored gilt lettering on the spine. Square and firmly bound, two stains on the front endpaper, clean otherwise. The first U.S. edition of Carter's novel previously published as The Infernal Desire Machines of Doctor Hoffman.

First American edition, first printing. Previous owner's bookplate to front pastedown, otherwise a fine clean tight unmarked copy in full black cloth. Unclipped dust jacket shows the original price of $6.95, minor edgewear to jacket. Uncommon in this first edition.
