The Violet Apple and the WitchLindsay, David : The Violet Apple and the Witch. Chicago : Chicago Review Press, 1976. First paper. Edited by J.B. (John) Pick. Octavo (8vo), 8.5"/22cm h. Bound in publisher's glossy pink pictorial wrappers, unattributed line drawing of the eponymous fruit to front wrap. [iv], 395, [396] blank. Intro (by British novelist-philosopher Colin Wilson), volume includes separate forewords (by Pick) to The Violet Apple and The Witch. Condition notes: a solid, unmarked copy of the slightly garish issue by Chicago Review Press. Moderate wear/rubbing to wrappers. Light foxing to edges. Relic moisture exposure to tail has left a slight stain to corner and light but noticeable rippling to tail inch throughout; no sticking or odors. Binding sound with no spine crease. Lindsay created some of the most original and memorable science fiction and fantasy of the early 20th Century - famously A Voyage to Arcturus, but also The Haunted Woman and several others (C.S. Lewis, notably, an enthusiast of the mythopoeic creation of the former). And finally, long after he died, these two stories saw publication. If you ever wondered what sort of wonders might ensue if a seed from the Garden of Eden is planted, then The Violet Apple is the book for you. We personally inspect every book we offer.

The Violet Apple and the WitchHardback in dust wrapper. First edition, 1976. Blue boards with gold spine titles. 395pp. Seems like a proof or review copy as several pages have textual corrections, such as page 203 where "peotic" is changed to poetic and occasional indications that some sections of text require moving. Otherwise the pages are clean. The spine has a thin crease running the length and slight rubbing to ends, else the book is VG with minor signs of use only. The unclipped dw has mild surface scuffing to exposed edges and light edge wear with some short tears, although minimal loss. Mildly age-toned internally, but overall in attractive condition. Photos available on request.
