An unusual, complex, adult fairy tale from the American John Gardner (there's a British one too). Six full page illustrations, plus frontispiece, printed in brown, by the designer and illustrator (and Design Director of the Los Angeles Ballet) Catherine Kanner (also the author/illustrator of "The Book of the Bath", 1985). Brown cloth boards a tad faded on spine, but a very good copy indeed. MC

A near fine first edition in a very good jacket (jacket has some fading and wear). Clean tight copy.

Very gently bumped with a slight shelf lean, previous owner's gift inscription on the front free end paper. Jacket rubbed at the edges, spine slightly darkened. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall

Breadloaf 1980." Jacket is unclipped, showing light shelfwear at edges. Brown cloth covered boards, clean but very slightly warped front cover. Binding is sound, bright gilt title on spine. A presentation copy in VG condition overall.

No 39 of first 300 copies printed and signed by author. The only real flaw in this copy is that someone had a cup of coffee while reading it. There's an old stain on the bottom right half of the front that extends to the bottom back of the cover. How the book survived unscathed at all is a miracle. The dustcover is also showing small edge wear and a small tear at the bottom back near the stain. The hardcover boards are showing minimal edge and corner wear. Spine is not softened or showing any wear. Gold embossed title on spine is showing minimal to no wear. Hinges are in like new condition. Pages have a number of tiny brown spots along top edge, and while it's clearly not liquid damage there is a faint ripple to the pages, which are otherwise unmarked or folded

SIGNED BY GARDNER. First edition (so stated), 1st printing. FINE (no names, bookplates, remainder marks, or writing of any kind, etc.), with FINE dust jacket which has $15.00 price intact. As new.
