Collects three long supernatural stories by each author: 258 pages. First published by Jonathan Cape in 1951, the first Tartarus Press printing was in 2011, with a new eight page introduction by R. B. Russell, followed by a 2nd Tartarus Press printing in 2016, and now this third printing in 2024. Fine copy in a fine dustjacket (as new).

Octavo. Bound in red linson boards, spine and front panel titled in gilt and silver, black endpapers, head-and tail-bands, red satin bookmark. Dust jacket Illustration by Stephen J. Clark. 258 pp. The first Tartarus printing was issued in 2011 and was limited to 350 copies; this is the second Tartarus Press Edition issued in 2016. A fine copy in a fine dust jacket, price corner intact. Collects six fantastic & supernatural stories. Originally published by Jonathan Cape in 1951, this edition has a New Introduction by R.B. Russell. "We Are for the Dark is a remarkable collection, and one that can be said to have kick-started the 'Aickmanesque' short story. Credit for the genesis of this sub-genre of the ghost story should be given jointly to Robert Aickman and his collaborator in We Are for the Dark, Elizabeth Jane Howard. Contributing three tales each, the authors were not identified with their own stories when the book was first published in 1951. We Are for the Dark contains six stories: 'The Trains', 'The View' and 'The Insufficient Answer' are by Robert Aickman, while 'Three Miles Up', 'Left Luggage' and 'Perfect Love' are by Elizabeth Jane Howard."

From an edition of 350 copies. Red boards with gold and silver titling, very good with light edgewear. Spine square. Binding sound. Dust jacket very good with a few tiny spots. Sparsely foxed to top of textblock; small (about 1.5-inch) stain to textblock fore-edge. Pages else clean, interior bright and unmarked.
